My first contact with Silvers was via phone. I was in the market for an E-Bike and researched Washington CheckBook for the best bike shop within 25 miles and to my very happy surprise Silvers was top rated, 3 checks, and they are .03 of a mile from my residence. I spoke with Jen who were very friendly, down to earth, and helpful. She directed me to a shop in VA because Silvers do not sell the E-Bikes I was searching for.
After buying the bike I bent a fender rail took it to Silvers, hoping to meet Jen but she wasn't there, not to worry her colleagues were just as nice and helpful, a technician fixed my fender free of charge. While there I purchased a mirror after the technician installed it he adjusted the air in my tires and the grips on the handlebars for a better ride and more support for my wrist. I will definitely be back to buy all my accessories from them. They have a nice variety of stock to choose from, great service and excellent staff. I highly recommend Silvers Cycles.
I usually try to write positive reviews for places, but this place has horrible customer service, and here's why. Don't get me wrong - there are really nice employees there like Ed, Adam, and Jen, but Linda (who appears to be the owner) is horrible. I needed many repairs done on my bike - new cables, replace the rear cassette, new tires, handlebar tape replacement, etc. Nevermind that I racked up quite the bill in repairs - the part that gets me is that three times they charged me more than what they agreed too. Linda said that if I bought my tires there, that they'd install them for free. Seemed like a nice deal, so I agreed even though I know how to do it. False. They charged me a fee per tire. When I approached the issue, she didn't remove the charges. Fine, I let it go. Later, as they were tuning my bike, they called me to say that the brake pads needed to be repaired. They quoted me a price, and when I arrived, it was 30% higher. Linda and I went back and forth on the discrepancy. She maintained that the charges were correct according to their computer system. I get that. But the issue was that they were charging me significantly more than what I had agreed to. Linda didn't budge and her solution instead was that they would take the the new brake pads off my bike and replace them with a lower grade to match the lower price. Seriously???? I'm sorry Silver Cycles, you may have overcharged me, but you have lost my business.
Blew a flat and needed a new tube and tire on my work commuter. I came in, was promptly greeted, mechanic dropped what he was working on and immediately replaced the tube and tire in a matter of seconds.
Linda was very very helpfull. She help us with the baggage, Bicycle box, Taxi and ... We ha some problem whith our visa and she was very nice and understood perfectly our situation. Thank you very much!!! I recomend this bike shop very much!!!
This appears to be my new go-to shop for keeping my commuter up and running.
Abysmal customer service.
We are from Spain and we traveled with our tandem bicycle fron Oregon to Whashington DC. We had to pack our tandem and get ready to come back to Spain.
When I dropped off my "town" bike in early September for a simple tuneup, the clerk warned me it would take up to 3 weeks because all of their mechanics had gone back to college. I finally called after hearing nothing for 6 weeks, only to be told sheepishly that the bike had been ready for a month, but nobody had called me. When I went to pick up the bike, I expressed to the manager my dissatisfaction with their failure to advise me that my bike was ready for pickup, she defensively stated that they had, in fact, left me a message. Cell phone log shows no missed calls, calls received or voice mails from Silver Cycles AND employee had previously admitted that nobody called. Strike one.
When I protested the $120 charge for a tune-up I was told would cost $90, the manager stated that additional work was done. Which I never authorized. Her reply? "That's part of a tune-up." If so, why wasn't I quoted $120 for the tune-up? Strike two.
On the ride home, I noticed that my handlebars were askew (see photo), which was not the case when I brought in the bike. Easily remedied with a wrench and some elbow grease, but this erodes any confidence I may have had in the quality of their work and their attention to detail. Strike four. Who gets four strikes?
I was not given an itemized receipt. The clerk checking me out stated that it would be emailed to me. Instead, I just got a receipt for the amount charged to my credit card. Strike three.
